Hi ppl. This is my first message here. I've only recently received my copy of Vista Beta 2 CPP and i installed them on a seperate partition on my laptop. The problem is that i've joined my job's Domain (Server running Windows Server 2003) and when i log on to that domain, it takes TOO much time to take me in windows. Message "Logging in" lasts about 10 secs and then says "Preparing Desktop" for about 10mins!!!
I do not have this problem when logging in from windows XP from any PC. Any ideas ppl?? Thanx

Domain Logon VERY slow!
The first time you log in as a user it will take awhile to create your local profile settings.
It shouldn't take that long on your next login.

Well, could be a duplicated post, but there seems to be a problem with Firefox and the Newsgroups. Anyway, the problem is that i've logged on to the domain more that five times and it still needs a year to complete the log on. Could there be some misconfiguration in the server or Vista?
Thanx

I had the same issue. I have a single Win2k3R2 server acting as my "everything" for my local domain (AD PDC, DNS, DHCP, etc.) Vista was a workstation on my network.
The problem was with the client (Vista box) TCP/IP configuration. I didn't have my local domain's DNS (again, my main home server) as the first in the DNS list on the client (it may have been missing completely, can't remember); my ISP's DNS entries had the priority instead (if not the only DNS). Even though I tried to set NetBIOS over TCP/IP it didn't seem to have an effect.
I put the local IP for my main box (the PDC/DNS) at the top of my DNS entries and login went from >10 minutes to <10 seconds. I suspect that if you put the IP of your local DNS (containing the records of your PDC - again, same machine in my case), you'll be in business too.

Thanx for the answer. It can be the problem, as my server also works as a DNS and DHCP server. And as far as i can remember the first DNS entry is the router's. I'm gonna change the settings and let you know of the results!
Thanx again!
